Milestone Projects

Looking back at the semester as a whole, I've definitely learned a lot in this class. I've found another program to utilize for my future artworks which I am now more excited for. to wrap it up, let's look at the projects I've done:

For my first project, I decided to do an Ipod classic for my objectified response. It was my first time working with a 3d software and I was still learning the ropes so I did a simple object but also something that stuck with me from the movie because this was one of my favorite belongings growing up. I really liked how the screen turned out even with its simplicity because it brought back memories.

For my Mesh Mashup, the hardest part was definitely brainstorming what pieces would go with each other. You would think that adding literally anything together would be easy but the thought itself is overwhelming. You have to add in the factor of is it will it be visually pleasing, and is it available in Thingiverse? That's how I felt with this project. I had a brief idea and checked to see what was available to me and made it work.

This project was probably my favorite out of all the projects. Coming up with my choice wasn't all to hard. I initially started with a more complicated version of my final which I later learned was too ambitious. The Final design was the perfect blend simplicity and complexity. Aside from the time consuming and experimental process of folding and glueing them together, seeing my carefully modeled paper-craft file come to life is definitely rewarding.

Lastly, my Hybrid 3D model is the combination of all my past projects. With more tools to use in the program, we were able to create objects that were not only conceptual but visually pleasing. Having to incorporate a partner's design is part of that challenge of making the design work, in which I believe we were able to do. With two different design styles, we were able to come up with the idea of mixing organic with geometric forms. The idea was ancient vines wrapping around a monumental structure.

Taking this class definitely opened up new doors for my future art endeavours and I can't wait to experiment.

Hybrid Design

For my Hybrid design, I got partnered up with Josh Mackay.

My initial designs were very experimental, as I was trying to get the hang of some tools and commands.

Josh and I decided to use this design of his to combine with mine. I couldn't decide on which to use for mine so we played around to see which one could work well.
I modified one of my designs and tapered it so I could place his on top. I was going for a trophy or some sort of like structural monument type of design.
Then I experimented with my vine like design, modified it, and wrapped it around his design.
This gave me an idea of a vine like structure that would hold Josh's design up. I decided to pass up on it.
Then to match his design aesthetically, I started to make a more straight edged tower like structure to hold his design.
Ultimately, we decided on the initial vine like design and we decided to test it.
Unfortunately it was too small and the platform that the design rests on didn't work.
So we decided to add a paraboloid and a cone underneath so it would taper up.
after some variations, we decided on this one

After some testings, everything was successful.

Papercraft Final

This is my final Master Chief helmet design I did for the project. The edits i did on the prototype really helped out a lot on the process, and the colors and extra little details make it pop that much more. Although small, I pretty proud of this one.

Paper Craft Project

For my figure I decided to refine the design to be more streamlined and more accessible while still having the same look and feel.

old new

Initial design was too small as well as the tabs.

I printed the new and more accessible forms which came in 4 pages.
Some tabs had overlap on folds which I had to trim.

Another tab overlap.
Some areas had too much tabs that I had to trim away.
Here I had to trim away a tab because it was in an awkward position. I should have attached it on the opposite side.
Visor/Middle part done
Glued together

here I had tabs missing that I took notes to add later on.
I had to cut a hole at the bottom to be able to glue the insides.

3 part done

I added the smaller details on the front and sides and finished!
